Cutlery, Crockery, Glassware
All of these are different names to refer to tableware. Tableware is any serving dish that is used for setting a dining table. They are used for both practical purposes and aesthetic purposes. Generally, tableware is split into four types:
- Serveware: As the name suggests, serveware consists of utilities used for serving food. This list commonly consists of serving bowls, casseroles, platters, teapots, etc., that are used to present food on the dining table. Serving spoons, ladles and other utensils also come under this category.
- Dinnerware: This is what people commonly call crockery. Dinnerware is any utensil that is used to serve individual portions of food at the dining table. Plates and soup bowls are examples. Dinnerware is highly versatile. They come in different colours, designs and patterns to fit different themes. Such utensils are often made with fragile materials like melamine, porcelain or glassware. Earthen and stoneware are more often used in homes than restaurants.
- Silverware: Silverware is what is popularly known as cutlery. Spoons, forks, knives are all part of this list. They vary in size and shape based on the purpose they are designed to serve. Usually, cutlery is made of silver or stainless steel, hence the name.
- Drinkware: As the name suggests, drinkware refers to any vessel from which one can drink. Mugs, cups, glasses are all part of this list. These, too, refer according to the occasion and the beverage of choice.
Cafe crockery is a particular segment of drinkware that consists of its own collection of cups and mugs. Although it says cafe, there are many kits available that can be bought for the home as well.
What are the different collections?
This crockery is a trendy style of dishware by itself. Many people have a variety of cups and saucers from different eras, trends, and designs in their possession. Beverage vessels have transformed a lot–from stone cups in the Neolithic period to intensely carved teacups in the Victorian era; there are specialised collections for them!
Some popular collections of cafe crockery that one can adorn their kitchens with are:
- Barista Range: These include cappuccino cups and saucers. They have a carrying quantity of 150 or 220 ml based on the cup’s curvature. The barista range is called so due to the quality of the cup. It is manufactured to withstand high temperatures and retain the coffee’s aroma. They make such cups and saucers with high-grade porcelain that provides them with durability and high chip resistance.
Italian Range: These are also 180 ml cups that are shaped differently. While barista range cups are rounded at the bottom, Italian range cups are shaped like pots. They are called Italian due to the thin tapered cup lip that improves the ease of drinking. These cups come with hardened handles and glaze hardness that preserves the colour and pattern of the cups.
